Improved Traceability with Forensics and AI
Welcome to this side event organized by World Forest ID, Swedish Forest Agency & IKEA, titled “Using forensic methods, AI and ‘origin science’ to improve traceability and increase the integrity of forest supply chains.”
Forests provide a vast variety of environmental, economic and social benefits, and protecting them is critical to mitigating climate breakdown. Preventing and addressing the environmental and social risks associated with forest product supply chains requires advanced traceability.
Hear from IKEA how it uses forensic methods to identify wood species and origin in its forestry due diligence system. Learn from World Forest ID how it partnered with key stakeholders and users, including IKEA, FSC, and a number of enforcement agencies responsible for European regulations, to develop a unique AI-enabled spatial model that incorporates ranges of chemical variables for key timber species and forest risk commodities with land use information.
FSC, the Swedish Forest Agency and a national competent authority under EUTR / EUDR will provide their perspectives on the role of forensic methods and the World Forest ID model to ensure the integrity of certification schemes and enforce laws – ultimately protecting forests in their work.
Speakers: Mikhail Tarasov, Johann Trischler, Marc Jessel and Jennie Sverker.
