Stockholm+50: Environmental action in focus

The UN, high-level meeting will mark the fiftieth anniversary of the 1972 UN Conference on the Human Environment held in Stockholm, which led to the creation of the UN Environment Programme.

Stockholm welcomes the world on 2-3 June, bringing world leaders and representatives from governments, businesses, international organizations, civil society and youth together for the Stockholm+50 international environmental meeting.

The theme of the meeting is Stockholm+50: a healthy planet for the prosperity of all – our responsibility, our opportunity. The conference will raise awareness about the importance of protecting our planet and will contribute to increasing the pace of the transition to sustainable and green societies.

Leadership dialogues

Three leadership dialogues will take place during the meeting contributing to the outcome of Stockholm+50. They aim to mobilize the global community behind strengthened cooperation and accelerated innovative action.

Leadership dialogue 1:
Reflecting on the urgent need for action to achieve a healthy planet and prosperity for all
Thursday 2 June, 15.00-18.00 CEST

Leadership dialogue 2:
Achieving a sustainable and inclusive recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic
Friday 3 June, 10.00-13.00 CEST

Leadership dialogue 3:
Accelerating the implementation of the environmental dimension of Sustainable Development in the context of the Decade of Action
Friday 3 June, 15.00-18.00 CEST

Youth perspective

There will also be focus on the youth perspective, where the Stockholm+50 Youth Task Force (YTF) is convened as the entity responsible for facilitating youth engagement in the Stockholm+50 International Meeting processes.


Among networking and meeting sessions, Stockholm+50 offers an opportunity for nations and stakeholders to collaborate, share expertise, and address complex nexus issues for urgent actions and long-term system change. Both IUFRO and SLU will attend and follow the meeting.

The Stockholm+50 Conference is convened by the United Nations and co-hosted by the Governments of Sweden and Kenya.
