Tree Planting Ceremony
The tree planting ceremony serves as the inaugural event of the IUFRO World Congress 2024. It holds a longstanding tradition within IUFRO, representing resilience and the connection between generations and continents.
The ceremony is held at the immensely popular open-air museum, Skansen, in the heart of Stockholm. At the top of Orsakullen, two oaks and two pines will be ceremoniously planted, representing the forest culture in northern Europe.
The choir ‘Allmänna sången’ will perform alongside speakers from the city of Stockholm, IUFRO, and the host country who will address the audience.
This occasion overlaps the midsummer celebration with dancing and entertainment, inviting you to partake in the jubilation. It’s a cultural celebration that offers a unique opportunity to experience the most cherished Swedish tradition of them all.
The last time Sweden hosted the Congress was in 1929. Today, Congress has developed into a global event with delegates and stakeholders from more than 100 countries, mainly from the scientific community and governments, businesses, and non-governmental organizations. The delegates at the Congress reflect a wide diversity of genders, socioeconomic backgrounds, education, ethnicity, and cross-sectoral scientific fields.
